Not just the COVID-19 Virus getting around in 2020…
Written by Wave Community Radio Station on 31st December 2020
2020 has been a tough year for everyone both financially and mentally.
There has been a sense of missing others and also missing regular interaction that we may have taken as granted. Here at Wave Community Radio (WCR) we have seen an increase in listener figures through the initial Lockdown period. With all of our presenters streaming from their homes it was a wonderful team effort to keep the station going whilst maintaining our quality and content level.
We have grown in diversity within our shows with the addition of a Soul and Funk based show from Robin Whitlock (Thursdays @ 8pm) giving a look into the music that he enjoys both discovering and listening to. There has been more development into our weekend schedule with a Saturday morning family show which is run by local entertainer Ade Bowen from Action Pussycat (Saturday’s 11am).
We were hampered in our engagement this year vastly due to the Virus as it impacted our ability to get out and about to support local events. Something which also helps us to raise awareness of our support for local
business as well as local community projects. Needless to say, the Wave Community Radio Roadshow is itching to get out there in 2021 following the lifting of the Covid-19 restrictions by North Somerset Council.
As we come to the end of 2020 there is much to reflect on but in this brief blog, I believe the reflection should be focused on our continued increase in our engagement within the community of Weston super mare and the surrounding villages. With an average growth from 2-4,000 listeners per month we are growing at a consistent rate which is what is perfect for a station whos focus is the local Community.
Let’s all raise a glass to 2021 and the renewed hope for Wave Community Radio and its continued work. Stay tuned!
