Wave Radio Station Manager
Richard Niblett – Station Manager Richard rekindled a childhood love of radio after answering a call for volunteers at a Bristol community radio station. ‘Having spent a good part of my early childhood living in a remote Welsh farmhouse where TV signal was non-existent, music was a big part of my life.
Thanks to my step-father, I was raised on a diet of early 70’s rock music from the likes of Pink Floyd, CSN&Y, America, Santana etc and I have fond memories of tuning into stations such as Radio Caroline, Radio Luxembourg and the then fledgling Radio One on my little transistor radio – it was my window onto the outside world.’ Fast forward 40 odd years and Richard discovered radio was the perfect way to combine his love of music with his passion for electronics & computers.
Becoming increasingly disillusioned with so-called ‘local’ radio, Richard decided it was high time his home town of Weston-super-Mare had its own truly local station. During the day you’ll find him selling motorhomes at a local dealer and by night, working on the technology in the studio and the automation systems that combine to make Wave Community Radio a reality. ‘Managing Wave Community Radio means I have little time to do my own shows but I hope to get back on the air with my offshore radio inspired show ‘Pirate Nation – The Sound of Free Radio’ very soon.’
